Mock Meat? Peas, carrots & gravy

Isn’t it just amazing how some of these single serving tubs, or tubes and canned pet foods for both dogs and cats have all the gorgeous “meats, veggies and gravy”… wow!.. How do they do it? Seems like it would cost $10 a tub… nope, just about 25 cents, mostly for the packaging. You could put them in the human food isle and never hardly know better. Especially if you’re a vegetarian that’s used to Seitan and Tofu which do have a form of “protein” allowing for dressing up the guaranteed analysis to appear to enhance the nutritional value because they do not have to disclose the source or quality of the protein value. This type of “protein” is very incomplete and barely usable by our carnivorous dogs and cats and are cooked intensely which kills the scarce nutrition. Seitan and Tofu are used to to make what’s known as mock meats and can be cut and molded and even imprinted with very realistic flesh and skin patterns to emulate real meat. The Seitan in particular is very realistic looking but it’s made by coagulating wheat gluten (an absolutely horrid ingredient for dogs and cats — toxic shock) and what’s more is it’s further disguised with rich looking gravy which is also highly wheat gluten based. Then sprinkle a few cents worth of peas and carrots and the counterfeit is complete, but your pets health is not fooled just their unwitting humans. We have all seen the commercials with the master chef that’s serving his dog a seemingly super healthy gourmet meal — (rhymes with pitiful).
